Kandahar Village ticks all the boxes for Graham and Lin

Better accessibility is what drew a Masterton couple from their home of 53- years to Enliven’s Kandahar Village.

Graham and Lin Workman were two of the first people to move into the village, located in Lansdowne, Masterton, and have been there for almost two years.

Before moving to Kandahar Village they had a big two-storey house that was becoming hard for them to manage.

Lin has multiple sclerosis and was getting to the stage where she needed a wheelchair to move around the house. This meant finding a house with good accessibility was important.

In addition to a more accessible home, Lin says they also wanted a drive-in garage, a decent sized bathroom with a wet-floor shower, and double glazing.

“Kandahar Village ticked all those boxes. We had looked at lots of houses and they hadn’t ticked the boxes, so when this came up it was the right thing to do.”

All villas at Kandahar Village are designed with Lifemark 4 accessibility features and have been built with consideration for the ageing process. These features include spacious rooms, slip resistant vinyl flooring in the kitchen, and flat entrances.

Graham says the location was another attraction, the village is close to cafes, takeaway shops, the supermarket, the hospital, and the library.

They do miss the garden at their old home, but they have pot plants, a small vegetable garden, and have planted some shrubs.

Lin says they have also enjoyed the sense of community at Kandahar Village.

“We’ve made some new friends, it’s a lovely neighbourhood. We share meals, we have fish and chips and rugby nights with some of the neighbours.”

Kandahar Village is located in Totara Street, Lansdowne, Masterton, and has villas available now. Call sales agent Nell McDonald on 06 370 0662 to view today. Or visit enlivencentral.org.nz for more information.
