At PSC, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. We collect, use, store, and disclose personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020, the Health Information Privacy Code 2020, and any other applicable laws.

We have processes and safeguards in place to ensure that personal information is protected from unauthorised access, use, disclosure, alteration, or loss. Access to personal information is restricted to authorised team members who require it to perform their duties.

 

How we collect your information

We generally collect personal information directly from you when you:

  • Complete forms, surveys, or feedback requests
  • Visit our website
  • Make a donation or otherwise support our organisation

We sometimes collect or receive information from a third parties such as health or referring agencies or people. For example, from a member of your whānau or from a service or someone who is looking after you. If someone contacts us on behalf of another person, we also collect the name and contact details of the person contacting us.

In most cases, we collect and hold personal information to enable us to provide a service to you, raise financial support from you, or otherwise engage with you as we deem necessary. This includes providing you with information about other services, and with your agreement, may include connecting with other services.

Website security and online transactions

Information submitted through our websites, including online purchases and donations, is protected while being transmitted using Secure Socket Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) encryption. This helps protect information exchanged between your browser, our websites, and authorised third-party service providers from unauthorised access while it is being transmitted.

 

Storage and security of information

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, and disclosure.

Personal information may be stored in secure electronic systems, approved data centres, and secure paper-based records. Access is restricted to authorised personnel and service providers who require access to perform their duties.

When you make an online purchase or donation, your payment is securely processed by an authorised third-party payment provider. The provider may collect and process your payment details and related personal information for the purposes of completing the transaction, preventing fraud, managing refunds or disputes, and meeting legal and regulatory requirements. We do not receive or store your full credit or debit card details. Payment information may be processed or stored outside New Zealand and will be handled in accordance with the payment provider’s privacy and security practices.

 

Disclosure of personal information

We will only share your information where we are permitted to do so with your consent or if we are required to by law. For example:

  1. To prevent or lessen a serious threat to an individual's life, health, or safety, or to public health or safety.
  2. For quality assurance, research, auditing, accreditation, and complaint management purposes.

  4. In accordance with the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 where disclosure supports the wellbeing or safety of a child.

When disclosing your information to third parties, we make all reasonable efforts to ensure only relevant, accurate and up-to-date information is shared.

We do not rent, exchange or sell mailing lists of our supporters to third parties.

 

Access to and correction of information

If you want to check the information that we hold about you, please contact us. Before providing access, we may require proof of your identity to ensure information is released only to authorised individuals.

There may be circumstances where we are unable to provide access to all requested information because it contains details about other people, it would be unsafe to provide the information, or we are legally required to withhold the information. If we refuse to provide you with access to your record, we will explain the reasons for our decision.

If you believe any information we hold about you is incorrect, you can ask us to correct it. We will either make the correction or explain to you why we are not prepared to do so. In that case, you may ask for a statement of your views to be placed on your record.
