Our Whakapapa and Heritage

Enliven is part of Presbyterian Support Central (PSC), one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most established, not‑for‑profit social service organisations. Our whakapapa stretches back more than a century of caring for communities. Today, Enliven provides services for older people while our sister service, Family Works Central, supports tamariki, rangatahi and whānau. Together, we help build safe, strong and connected communities.

Our Philosophy of Care - The Eden Alternative

Our approach is guided by the Eden Alternative – an internationally recognised philosophy that focuses on eliminating loneliness, helplessness and boredom.

We do this by creating communities where elders enjoy companionship, maintain purpose, and have genuine choice and control.

Eden’s principles are woven into everyday life in our homes and villages: from welcoming pets and regular visitors to resident‑led activities, shared gardens and the rhythms of home.

Positive Ageing in Action

We offer a full range of positive ageing services so people can find the right support at the right time. This includes retirement villages (independent living), rest home care, hospital‑level care, specialist dementia care, respite and health recovery, day programmes, and practical support such as continence services. Wherever you join us, you’ll find community, companionship and professional care.

Where We Work

Enliven’s services are available across the lower North Island – including Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatū, Horowhenua, Wairarapa and the greater Wellington region. Our homes and villages are local, connected and designed to reflect each community we serve.

How We Work

Everything we do is person‑centred and culturally responsive. We get to know each person’s story, culture and preferences, and tailor support accordingly. You’ll see this in the small things that matter: choosing what time to start the day, keeping up hobbies and interests, sharing kai with friends and whānau, and staying active in the community.

Our People

Our teams include experienced nurses, carers, recreational staff, allied health professionals and dedicated volunteers. They are united by a commitment to kindness, professionalism and the belief that older people should feel at home, valued and safe.

Quality, Safety and Continuous Improvement

We follow robust clinical governance and quality frameworks and partner closely with residents, clients and families to continually improve our services. Feedback is welcomed and helps us lift the standard of care across every Enliven service.

Yes, in many of our retirement villages and homes, couples can continue living together. We’ll work with you to find the best accommodation and support option for your situation.
We know pets are family too. Where possible, Enliven welcomes pets into our retirement villages and aged care homes, subject to approval and suitability.
You can apply directly to Enliven or be referred by your doctor, Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) team, or hospital. Our team will guide you through the process step by step.
