Enliven residents find the answers at inter-home quiz

Residents from Enliven’s rest homes in Manawatu, Horowhenua and Whanganui came together at Reevedon Home in Levin recently for the inaugural inter-home quiz.

Categories covered everything from general knowledge, to sports, famous buildings and flags.

The event had a spring theme and some teams adorned flower crowns or wore yellow, while the team from Kowhainui Home and Village in Whanganui sported brightly-painted t-shirts.

Enliven Levin volunteer coordinator Stuart Beissel acted as quizmaster, calling out the questions for each round and keeping track of the all-important scores.

The team from the Levin Home for War Veterans came out triumphant on 77 points.

Levin Home for War Veterans diversional therapy team leader Debra O’Neill said many of the residents in that team participate in the regular quiz events held at the home.

“It’s awesome to see them all sitting around and talking about the answers.”

The event was part of an on-going shared social calendar between Enliven’s rest homes, and was jointly hosted by Reevedon Home and Levin Home for War Veterans.

Events this year have also included a picnic hosted by Feilding’s Coombrae Home and a rock and roll party held at Brightwater Home in Palmerston North.

“We established this to build connections among Enliven residents, as well as having lots of fun and spontaneity,” says Recreation Advisor Davina Solomon.

“It’s great that everyone gets behind the spirit of it. What’s also exciting is that each home’s social calendar is shaped to reflect the combined activities – such as painting spring t-shirts ready for the quiz. It has a positive ripple effect, with many reminiscing the events in the days and weeks following.”

Reevedon Home and Village on Salisbury Street, Levin, offers rest home, independent living, short-term respite and a day programme.
