Enliven has respite care covered in Manawatū

Enliven’s Manawatū homes can provide respite care for people in the community who need it.

Enliven is reminding Manawatū locals that short-term care is also available at its homes.

Respite care gives family carers a chance to take a break or go on holiday, while their loved ones stay with Enliven.

Feilding’s Coombrae Home has a dedicated respite room that families or caregivers can book in advance, while Palmerston North’s Willard Home and Brightwater Home can offer respite based on availability.

Coombrae Home manager Stephen Prabhakaran explains that elders staying at the rest home on respite have the chance to enjoy a change of scenery and the companionship of others at a similar stage of life.

“They get to participate in all the activities we run at Coombrae Home, and of course all their meals are provided,” Stephen says.

“For families it allows them that break that they might need where they can relax and focus on other things.”

He says families can contact Coombrae Home or sister sites Brightwater Home and Willard Home in Palmerston North for respite at short notice if an emergency situation crops up.

Coombrae Home provides both rest home care and a secure dementia unit, and Stephen says respite can be offered in both areas. Brightwater Home has rest home, hospital and dementia care available, while Willard Home offers rest home care.

Respite care can range in length from a few days to a week or longer periods, depending on the needs of the person and their caregiver.
