Coombrae Home dresses up for Formal Friday

Residents at Enliven’s Coombrae Home in Feilding took part in the Formal Friday movement recently, dressing up to the nines for lunch.

The Formal Friday idea has been picked up globally as much of the world’s population has been restricted to their homes to work, most likely in comfy clothes.

The home’s specialised dementia care unit – Rata Haven – glammed up its dining area for the event with gold and red table settings laid out.

“The ladies had make-up and manicures and the men donned their ties,” Enliven recreation advisor Davina Solomon says.

She says they all put their nicest clothes on and enjoyed a meal together.

Taking part in Formal Friday reflects Enliven’s holistic approach in all its rest homes to ensure residents who have dementia feel safe, comfortable, and enjoy where they live.

Davina says it’s important that the rest homes are warm and welcoming places for the residents.

“People often think of rest homes, in particular dementia or hospital units, as cold clinical places, but Enliven homes are proof that it doesn’t have to be this way.”

Enliven homes include cosy lounges and domestic-style kitchens that feel familiar to the residents.

Enliven’s Coombrae Home and Village, located on North Street in Feilding, offers independent retirement villas, rest home and dementia care, short-term respite, as well as a day programme. To learn more about the home, call the friendly team on 06 323 4491.
